The Society of Internet
Professionals (“SIP”) is committed to preserving and safeguarding your right to
privacy. As part of this commitment, we want you to be fully aware of our
personal information management practices. Accordingly, this Privacy Policy
sets out the manner in which we will collect, use, disclose and otherwise
manage your personal information. For greater certainty, this Privacy Policy
will govern the activities of SIP including the SIP website at www.sipgroup.org (the “Site”) with the
exclusion of the webpage located at www.sipgroup.org/training/onlinet.html
(the “Mindleaders Webpage”) which is linked to the Mindleaders website. The
Mindleaders Webpage is not part of the Site, nor is the content of the
Mindleaders Webpage controlled by SIP.
We collect the
personal information you submit to us, including, but not limited to, your
e-mail address, mailing address, telephone phone number and other information
submitted to us in connection with your application for membership of SIP, your
submission of resumes or job postings for the Careers section of our Site, your
application for certification as a Certified Member of SIP (“CMSIP”) and any
other correspondence with us.
We
automatically collect general information related to your use of our Site, such
as the date and time you visited the Site, the domain name through which you
gained access to our Site, and the pages you visited on the Site. In addition,
we may collect “cookie” information from your browser to identify your computer
and provide us with a record of your visits to our Site. The technology used to
gather “cookie” information is provided by the Internet browser you use, and
may be turned off by using your browser preference buttons.
Any information
that we collect is collected as part of our general practice in order to
identify demographic information relative to users who access our site,
assessing the number of users accessing various sections of our Site, helping
us determine what content is working for us and/or are of interest to our
visitors, determining technical design features and specifications and helping
us assess systems performance. We also
use such information in statistical form to assist us in tailoring our programs
to be more useful to visitors.
We also collect
and store the information provided and use it only for purposes of responding
to you, informing you about upcoming activities, addressing the issues that you
may have raised or for purposes related to the reason why the information was
provided by you – e.g., the information provided for the job posting will only
be used in connection with the Careers section of the Site. We will also use
the membership information in creating a print directory for distribution at
trade conventions (you may indicate upon the submission of your membership application,
or anytime thereafter, your preference not to have your name/membership profile
published). Further, the membership information will be accessible for
searching by visitors to the Site.
The personal information you submit
to the SIP in connection with the CMSIP application is used to determine
whether to grant you the CMSIP certification (or the renewal of the CMSIP
certification), to administer the CMSIP licensing arrangements and to allow SIP
to formulate an accurate profile of our body of CMSIP licensees. The profiling
information will be used by SIP in an aggregated and anonymous form to document
general trends in internet industry professionals as well as to promote the
CMSIP certification.
We will maintain the strict
confidentiality of all personal information collected. We will not sell,
transfer or otherwise disclose any of your personal information to any third
party without your knowledge and consent.
Your name and company name will not be mentioned in general profile data
published or otherwise disclosed by SIP.
SIP will only disclose your personal
information to officers and volunteers of SIP who require such information for
the purposes set out above, to companies who act as our agents in providing our
services to you and who agree to use it only for that purpose, or as otherwise
required by law.
We understand that your privacy and
the security of your personal information are important to you and,
accordingly, uses secure servers to protect your personal information.
Nevertheless, no transmission on the Internet is guaranteed to be absolutely
secure and, therefore, SIP does not represent or warrant for the complete
security of the information provided to SIP and/or its service providers
through the Site. You understand that you are providing this information to SIP
at your own risk.
We will endeavour to maintain your personal information in secure data
storage to safeguard it from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. We will
only keep your personal information for as long as it remains necessary or
relevant for the purposes stated above or as otherwise required by law.
We will update this Privacy Policy
from time to time to reflect any changes in the manner in which we collect, use
or disclose your personal information. You agree that SIP may, at its sole
discretion, modify the Privacy Policy at any time with or without notice to
you. The revised Privacy Policy shall be posted on the Site. You should review the
Site on a regular basis for any such changes. You agree that your continued use
of the Site after any revised Privacy Policy has been posted on the Site
constitutes your consent to be bound by such revised Privacy Policy.
