The Society of Internet Professionals (SIP) is launching a Technology Solutions Forum Series. The theme for the inaugural forum to be held on October 16 is
E-Mail Scams & Identity Theft:
how individuals and businesses can protect against various scams received by e-mail.

The number of Phishing attacks has increased exponentially. Attackers create look-alike e-mails
and websites mimicking legitimate companies to lure people into providing their usernames,
account information and other confidential data. Some of these attacks resulting into identity theft of victims.

Identity theft is emerging as the most rapidly growing crime of the 21st century. According to a
recent survey by Deloitte, one in five respondents has been the victim of identity fraud or theft.

Last year, the Federal Trade Commission reported, spam messages resulted in $929 million in consumer losses and $2 billion in business losses, affecting 1.2 million victims
